How to Plan Pizza Catering for a Scottsdale Event

Ciao,

Chi va piano, va sano e va lontano.Who goes slowly goes safely and goes far. Good events are planned the same way.

Planning pizza catering for a Scottsdale event comes down to five decisions: your guest count, your space, your timing, your venue's rules, and your caterer's paperwork. Get those five right and the rest is toppings. Here is how we walk our own clients through it, with the same numbers we use to plan real events.

1. Start With the Guest Count, Then Do the Pizza Math

At catered events, the average guest eats about 0.7 pizzas. So a 50 guest party needs about 35 pizzas. We wrote a full breakdown of the ordering math, with adjustments for teenagers, long events, and heavy appetizers, in How Much Pizza to Order for an Event.

The second number that matters is throughput: how many pizzas per hour can the setup actually produce? Our four ovens bake up to 60 pizzas per hour at over 900 degrees, which serves a large party comfortably across a normal service window. Ask the question directly, because a single home oven setup making 15 pizzas an hour means your guests eat in shifts whether anyone planned it that way or not.

2. Walk Your Space Before You Book

A full mobile pizzeria setup needs roughly 300 to 375 square feet of outdoor space, about the footprint of a large patio. Flat ground matters more than looks. Grass, pavers, gravel, and pool decks all work; we lay 2.8mm PVC flooring under everything, so the surface underneath is protected either way.

Scottsdale backyards often have more room than hosts think. Side yards, driveways, and the space beyond the pool fence all cater well. If you are unsure, send your caterer photos. We review layouts before every booking, and it takes ten minutes.

3. Power and Water Are Not Your Problem, if You Book Right

A properly equipped mobile caterer is fully self-contained. Our setup runs on battery power, keeps ingredients below 40 degrees on battery refrigeration for up to 12 hours, and includes its own handwashing station. If a caterer asks to run extension cords into your kitchen or borrow your garden hose, that is a sign of how the rest of the event will go.

4. Timing: Work Backward From When People Get Hungry

Setup takes about two hours, service typically runs three to four, and teardown takes one. So for a 6 pm dinner, expect your caterer on site around 4 pm and gone by 11. Scottsdale's calendar matters too: October through May is prime event season, and popular dates book three to six months ahead. Summer parties work best after sundown, when the ovens are honestly no hotter than the afternoon was.

5. HOAs, Venues, and the Paperwork Nobody Enjoys

If you live in an HOA community, tell your community manager what is coming. A tent-based setup with no truck or trailer usually sails through approval, and a caterer who will coordinate directly with the HOA saves you the back and forth. Venues will ask for a certificate of insurance, often naming them as additional insured. A professional caterer produces one on request, usually the same day, backed by real coverage: ours is $2,000,000 in general liability.

One more thing worth asking for anywhere food is served: the health inspection grade. Maricopa County inspects licensed caterers and issues letter grades. Ferruccio's holds a Grade A, and our September 2026 routine inspection noted zero violations. Any caterer proud of their kitchen will show you the report.

The Short Checklist

  • Guest count times 0.7 equals pizzas needed
  • Confirm the caterer's pizzas per hour against your headcount
  • 300 to 375 square feet of reasonably flat outdoor space
  • Self-contained power, refrigeration, and handwashing
  • Book 3 to 6 months ahead for October through May dates
  • COI for your venue or HOA, and ask for the health grade
